Dodge has released several more of its Anchorman 2-themed commercials, starring Will Ferrell as inept newsreader Ron Burgundy. The four spots, one of which is a sequel to a previous commercial, follow roughly the same pattern as previous ads, with Ferrell’s Burgundy misunderstanding or generally making a fool of himself. For some of the ads, though, Burgundy is selling more than just Durangos – the red-suited host of San Diego’s most watched news broadcast shilling the entire Dodge lineup.
With 11 different variants filling out Porsche’s Panamera lineup, it can get a little dicey keeping track of the hierarchy. We find that the best way to keep things in order is by looking at the spec sheet, which serves as a subtle reminder that not only does the 2014 Panamera Turbo S sit atop the model’s lineup, it’s also pretty ridiculous—and we mean that in the nicest way imaginable. Slated to make its world premiere at the Tokyo auto show next month, the Panamera Turbo S churns up 570 horsepower and a backside-compressing 553 lb-ft of torque. And for the first time, Porsche will fit its highest-po engine into the Panamera’s Executive model, which adds 5.9 inches of wheelbase and 4.7 inches of added rear-seat legroom—you know, for fearless execs who like to indulge their chauffeurs.

It Don’t Come Easy
The Panamera Turbo S’s mill begins life as the same powerplant that powers the plebeian Panamera Turbo: a 520-hp, 4.8-liter twin-turbo V-8. In order to get to the 570-hp mark, which is an increase of 20 horses over last year’s model, engineers added a pair of turbochargers with larger compressors and increased fuel-injector pressure from 120 bar to 140. To cope with additional stress, pistons crafted from a special aluminum alloy with specially coated piston rings have been fitted. Of course, this all backs up to Porsche’s impressive seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic.
Despite those increases, fuel economy actually improves by a claimed 11 percent compared to the previous Turbo S model. Porsche says that the new model is good for 23 mpg in the European cycle. (For reference’s sake, the 2014 Panamera Turbo has been EPA-rated for 15 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, so expect numbers slightly down from those.)
But what goes in must come out, and the optional sports-exhaust system features the same sound symposer that debuted on the Panamera GTS two years ago, allowing exhaust gasses to sing through an acoustic channel that sends the engine note directly into the cabin by means of a driver-activated switch.
Porsche says both the standard issue and stretched Executive edition—more on that in a moment—are good for a top speed of 192 mph. Captains of industry and world leaders who spend their downtime slumming it at the drag strip will be pleased to learn that the Executive only gives up two-tenths to its standard-wheelbase counterpart in the quarter-mile, running it in 12 seconds to the standard Turbo S’s 11.8. Using launch control, Porsche claims a 0-to-60-mph time of 3.6 seconds regardless of wheelbase length.

Once seated in the back of the Turbo S Executive, power brokers will find extra an interior-lighting package and a large center console that Porsche says is designed specifically for the rear compartment. Thermal- and noise-insulated windows with privacy glazing help to keep the chauffeured suitably removed from reality. Executive buyers receive standard heated and cooled front and rear seats, while the shorter-wheelbase Turbo S has just heated rears—a pity, really. Shoppers will have their choice of a number of two-tone leather interiors, each featuring Porsche crests embossed on the front headrests.
For those who are interested in driving themselves, it will take $181,295 to drive away from the local Porsche dealer in a Panamera Turbo S. For those who wish to be driven—again, a pity—will need to part with a cool $201,495 for a Panamera Turbo S Executive. Porsche began taking orders today, and American deliveries will begin in January of next year.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has quite a checkered reputation on and off the football field, and he’s become as notable for his activities away from the NFL as he has his performances on the gridiron. One thing he hasn’t been that well-known for, however, is his interest in automobiles. That may change, however, as he’s just opened a website dedicated to motor vehicles, ShowMike.com.
“I love football, but many fans may not know that I am a big-time car enthusiast,” Vick relates.
The website is billed as an interactive online showroom, where you can see other celebrities’ cars. In addition, you can create an account, upload pictures of your own car, truck, SUV, motorcycle, ATV or boat, and interact with other enthusiasts. Every week, Vick says he’ll pick his favorite vehicle uploaded to the website and feature it on the home page.

A high-speed chase involving an allegedly drunk driver ended in a rather scary crash on Highway 41 in Milwaukee, WI in the wee hours of Monday morning. The driver of the Ford Taurus, 40-year-old Kevin Hutchins, hit speeds of up to 109 miles per hour, with three police cars in pursuit.
It looks like Hutchins tried to pull a fast one on officers, heading for an exit and then changing lanes at the last minute. But he seemed to have miscalculated the point of no return, and had a head-on impact with a concrete divider. The resulting impact sent the car airborne – this is where it gets really scary – and right into the windshield of a pursuing police cruiser.
The deputy behind the wheel suffered a broken foot, as well as back and neck pain and an airbag burn, according to the local Fox affiliate. As for the driver, after the crash he remained “belligerent and verbally abusive” with officers and first responders. While being treated, he also scratched a nurse at a local hospital, drawing blood. Hutchins faces charges of operating while intoxicated, reckless endangering of safety, fleeing from an officer, battery to an emergency medical care provider and resisting and obstructing. One particular characteristic of a modern-day Rolls-Royce is that it seems no two examples are exactly alike. It turns out that the exorbitantly wealthy really enjoy customizing their luxury vehicles and tailor them to their tastes—or lack thereof. Those with a particularly robust wallet can opt for the brand’s Bespoke program, where buyers have “the talents of the world’s finest automotive designers and craftspeople at (their) disposal,” Rolls-Royce gushes.
The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Chicane Phantom Coupe (what a name!), however, wasn’t specified by a customer. Instead, it’s the brainchild of Rolls-Royce Dubai’s brand manager Mohammed EL-Arishy. Proving the assertion that “inspiration for a Bespoke Rolls-Royce can strike anywhere,” EL-Arishy’s imagination was triggered while gazing at historic pictures during an assuredly expensive dinner at the Goodwood Hotel near the Rolls’ Goodwood production facility.
Rolls-Royce claims that its Bespoke Chicane Phantom Coupe is meant to evoke the history and heritage of the Goodwood racetrack, but that claim should not be taken too literally. Inside, there are no engine-turned aluminum surfaces, and there is no wooden steering wheel. The car doesn’t even have a tachometer. Instead, Rolls has chosen to fit the interior with large, sweeping carbon-fiber surfaces, and it keeps the curious “power meter,” a device that displays the engine’s available power reserve at any given moment. The chintzy Starlight headliner, sprinkled with LEDs that mimic stars in the night sky, remains—in stark contrast to the racing heritage that inspires the rest of the car.
Nearly every surface of the interior—bar the carpeting and panels rendered in carbon fiber—is upholstered in bright-red leather. While perhaps somewhat childish for a Rolls-Royce, the color choice works well with the Gunmetal Gray exterior, which is nicely complemented by matching wheels and a matte-black hood.
We know that many car aficionados in the Middle East are deeply saddened by the demise of GM’s Hummer brand, but this particular Rolls-Royce, with its sporty pretensions and ostentatious demeanor, should mitigate the sense of loss. On the other hand, those of us with more delicate taste need to realize that things could be worse. Rolls admits that it has painted a Bespoke model “perfectly matched to a favorite eye shadow.” Thankfully, it seems no two Rolls-Royces are exactly alike.
Due to the nature of mass production, a faulty part on a car can cause a recall numbering in the tens to hundreds of thousands of vehicles, even if not all of the cars in the recall are defective and need a fix. “Better safe than sorry” is the mantra. But over the past few years, automakers have learned how to perform recalls much more efficiently by employing technology that allows them to trace parts back to their sources, Automotive News reports. An extreme result of this is when General Motors used bar codes and radio frequency tags to trace defective Chevrolet Volt parts back to their source and limited a US recall to just four vehicles.
That recall was initiated after a European Volt owner brought the car in for a repair under warranty. A faulty brake valve was the problem, and instead of recalling all Volts that might be affected, GM searched its parts database and traced the faulty brake valves back to just four cars in the US.
Nissan has a similar track-and-trace system that is referred to within the company as “Bread Crumbs,” named in reference to the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. Parts that are tagged and traced are assigned to specific engineers, who track warranty cost, customer complaints and any reported defects, Automotive News reports.
Other automakers are using the same or similar practices to limit recalls to the vehicles that actually are defective. Not only should these smaller, more specific recalls help make vehicles safer, but it should lessen the monetary impact recalls have on the auto industry – which spends $45 billion to $50 billion on them per year.

A good Halloween display usually has some of spooky zombie climbing out of a coffin coming back to life, but to be honest, if a car-loving zombie had been buried in a coffin from Cruisin Caskets, they might not be in too big of a rush to haunt the living. More information is beginning to emerge on the upcoming McLaren P13, the brand’s new entry-level sports car aimed squarely at the Porsche 911. Auto Express is reporting that the British marque’s next entry will be priced from £120,000, slightly less than $195,000 at today’s exchange rates. That is significantly less than McLaren’s $230,000 12C, which will become the brand’s middle child once the P1 and P13 are on sale. We believe that U.S.-market pricing will fall much nearer to the $150,000 mark than $200K.
Auto Express further reports that the P13 will look similar to the P1 hypercar rather than the 12C, and our rendering from this year’s 25 Cars Worth Waiting For feature reveal as much. The P1′s design is more contemporary than the 12C’s, and both being penned by McLaren’s chief designer, Frank Stephenson, the newer design is the logical choice for future styling direction.
As we reported earlier this year, the rear-wheel-drive P13 will make around 450 horsepower from a detuned version of the brand’s proven 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8. The only transmission available will be a seven-speed dual-clutch ‘box operated by paddle shifters. Thanks to more-compact dimensions and a carbon-fiber-and-aluminum structure that will be very similar to the backbone of both of McLaren’s other roadgoing offerings, the P13 will be an extraordinarily lightweight sports car, undercutting the weight of its big brothers, as well as its competitors.

Decked out in pink, the special Mirage arrives on the occasion of the character’s 40th anniversary. It comes decked out with Hello Kitty decals on the outside, special hubcaps and unique upholstery. It’s even got a Hello Kitty pillow inside, for crying out loud.
Fortunately, only 400 examples will be made, hopefully only for domestic consumption, wearing a sticker price of 116,970 yen (equivalent to about $12k). Now we wish we could say this was a first, but sadly it’s not – not even for Mitsubishi.
